Keep Pretending

I can pretend
to hate you
just enough
for you to miss me
almost as much
as I miss you
it gives me pride
accomplishment
to be able to rage
and storm
but later I'll pretend
you're laying next to me
as I try to sleep
but for now
I must be brief and spiteful
and pretend you sicken me
almost as much
as I sicken myself
of course
this would all be much easier
if I could hate you for real
but I can't
so I'll just keep pretending
