Love Will Tare us Apart
Beautiful words - but still untrue.
We tear ourselves apart.
We are the ones who reach into our own aching chests to clutch onto our hearts and tug at our heartstrings until we can pull that percussive organ from behind our ribs and thrust it into the glaring sun of daylight.
We are the ones who cannot find the strength to risk being hurt by someone else, so we resolve to hurt ourselves before anyone else can touch us. We cannot divide ourselves from the instinct to runrunrun. Before it’s too late.
We are the ones who drive ourselves to the brink of reason, who get lost in the endless labyrinth that is our own empty mind. And we wander around until we eventually forget to even look for a way out.
We are the ones who pull away, who stay back. Because - silly, stupid, little girl - everyone knows you can’t trust anyone.
We have no one to blame but ourselves for the tears that we shed. We have no one to blame but ourselves for the world that we live in.
We tear ourselves apart.
