Before You Were Awake
each morning
I would tiptoe to your room
to wake you up
I'd slip under the blankets
and curl against your back
my eyelashes tickling your neck
and you would mumble
and turn
and put your arms around me
because you were still
too asleep
to think about it
and for that moment
I was warm
and happy
but then you would wake up
