Seeps into my ears
Filling my throat with longing.
A refuge.
The drum beats coursing through my temples
Pounding out a rhythm to ephemeral to grasp completely.
Drifting past my eyes
In time with my pulse.
Reminding me of another
Not so similar song
Heard once on a hot porch.
Floating past my neighbors slippers
Up through the white washed slats
And into my fingertips.
Tapping out the vibrant melody
Unable to resist the urge
To share the music
Reminding me of another
Not so similar song.
As it swayed with my hips
Dark and moody as
The dim jazz club
Filled with people.
Reminded of unhappy times
But uplifted by the common feeling
Reminding them of another
Not so similar song.
Pounded out on a steering wheel
Cold hard rain
Slashing against their headache.
Already late for their day.
Frustration filling every note
Reminding them of another
Not so similar song.
Sung once in a distant memory
Soothing them
Into comforting sleep.
Intertwining with the
Slim bars of a crib
Protecting them from
Imaginary demons.
Reminding them of another.
