Crash, Burn, Cry
As the planes had struck
Dropping pieces of building
Like paper shreddings
And the smoke arose
Cries filled the depth
Of what was left of the clean air
Unable to help
Forced to watch the building burn

With no feeling in my legs; my knees buckled
I hurried to her school
“Mommy, why are you picking me up so early?”
Speechless, I did not
Could not
Answer her

Her big beautiful brown eyes looked up at me
Full of wonder and curiosity
The lump in my throat built
Into an emotional wreckage
With all my might
I held back the tears,
I need to be strong
I have no choice

I sent her up to her room
So that I could unleash
Exactly how I really felt

I thought the tears would never stop streaming
That the lump
Would never stop growing
That is until
I turned on the TV.

The buildings crash down
They show re-plays
Over and over
My heart skips beats

I watch the clouds of smoke
Fill the lungs of innocence
Destroy thousands of hearts
Tear apart loved ones
The reasoning:
Pointless

How do I tell
My precious daughter
That this morning
She said her last words to her daddy,
Her hero
And as the towers collapsed
Our lives did as well

Her daddy died today, September 11th, at 9:58 A.M.
