Those Blank Walls
You are walking
Into somewhere where you know you can’t turn back
They lied
They said it was just a door
But you turn around to find that it can’t and won’t be
Wrenched open
With the darkness
It piles in around you
Like a cloud of pure death
And for some reason it doesn’t seem half this scary
In your own room
At night
You look ahead and see nothing but the eternal black
That promises to suck you into its horror
And you’ve got no earthly clue what that horror
May be
You test your footing
Not once but three times
Just to be sure you aren’t dreaming
And at any second you’ll awake and be outside the hall
With the others
Who aren’t even calling your name?
You finally know there is nothing to do
Nothing to do but walk on and rub it off
But then again
You can’t really rub off that presence
Of being alone
You’re still alone
And you can’t hold anyone’s hand but your own
Which you’re scared to do at the moment
Because you feel it turning to ice
You feel one chill
And another
Rippling down your spine like electricity
Electricity that suddenly makes you dizzy
But still dizzy you stumble to balance
A lost
And terrified balance
But it’s still there
And so are your hands
No matter how hard it is to believe
So you take your first step and then another
Slowly reassuring yourself
That it is not over
That there is good to come
At last
More steps
Come easily now
And even though you can’t feel anything
But the walls on
Either side
Of you
Running on as it seems forever
But then you see a tiny sliver of light
And it is coming
From right in front of you
