afternoons
afternoons are best spent
under the cool of the trees
with a book in a hand
and the cool breeze
my sister and i
on such hot days
barefooted, hairs loose
bare leg, sunburntface
she'd take the hosepipe
from the grass so green
she'd spray my face
and i'd scream.
