The humid summer air lies heavy outside
Stifling the strong wind that whipped throughout the day
The rain that pulverized the earth has subsided
Leaving only the steady sound of drips falling from the gutter
Emerging crickets chirp their lilting lullabies
Blending cadences in gentle eddies of sound
The looming thunderclouds and the piercingly bright sun have gone
And a deep, soothing blue enshrouds the sky
As the world catches its breath
My mind travels into the eye of the storm
Glad to drift serenely for a few moments
Knowing that soon enough the winds will rise, the storm clouds will gather
Rain will pound the earth and throw the world into a tempest of confusion
When the sun rises, I will be pulled tossed in countless directions
And so, for now, I drift
