A young girl,

Her face hidden beneath scarves,

Watches her world fall apart.

A boy throwing

Jagged stones at his sister,

No respect left for her.

Battle noises in

The distance,

Men meeting God or Allah.

Her mother falls

To her knees,

Begging her husband not to strike her.

And the girl,

Wrapped in scarves watches,

And she listens, as her life leaks from her eyes.

"when you cry, do you waste your tears?" Madonna

the last line is a refreshing change from just saying "she cried" and it gives a deeper meaning to the poem... read some of mine?
