Little Swallow, I Envy You
Little swallow
I am no swallow
Singing brightly,
Plodding earthbound
soaring blindly,
reciting flatly
dipping low
watching wistfully
Your wingtips graze
My heels clutch
the clouds
the earth
You wear no shackles
I have no wings
to bridle
to offer
your flight
simple escape
Free
Tethered
in a boundless sky
in a mediocre machine
No words, no thoughts
Habits, trivial fears
chain you to the ground
snare me to reality
Spread out below,
Enveloping
a toyland,
a quicksand,
the world
ordinary existence
People,
Timeline,
minute and paltry
static and inevitable
Enviable gift
Featherless wings
A lustrous exit
A tiptoe
from reality
into a swallow's niche
Slipping away
Coveting
from mundane worries
an elusive dream
Drifting above
Crafting my own
raised voices
feathers
and bitter words
and tender wings
Oh, to be untouchable
Someday I will soar
