Heartbeat Hostage
Heartbeat Hostage
I'm imprisoned by rhythm
The slosh of life within me.
Never sleeping, it pounds on,
The most melancholy metronome.
It keeps me alive, therefore dead to life, yet alive to death.
When it slows in the dark moments
Which seem brief as thought,
That is when I hear what sweet melody is to be
When the driving beat is calmed.
In the dark my eyes are opened;
In the dark I see.
In the dark my hands are held by those that have born all pain;
In the dark stands my door.
I would go through if not for the beat
That shakes the threshold
And slams it shut with cadences of misery.
I'm imprisoned by rhythm
The pulse of pain within me.
