Happiest Times of Our Short Lives
Why?
Why did the leaves have to turn orange
and blow away?
We would lie beneath the trees,
Looking up at the stars
through the fading leaves,
Saying how we wished for
this moment to last forever.
We were a group of friends
who were dreading the day
where would have to say goodbye,
with hugs given
while our warm tears fell.
The air was always warm,
Welcoming us to the grassy hills
near the school building.
Memorable experiences came as quickly
as the gentle breeze,
Having grass fights,
Rolling down the hills,
Or playing a sweet melody
on the new piano.
For most,
These were the happiest
times of our short lives,
and times like these never fade away from us,
For they exist in our memories
and our hearts as well.
