The Brother I Would Always Prefer
I wrote my vows
I said I do
I chose to be with him
But that night, I chose to be with you
He pays the bills
He plays the part
You did something he couldn’t
You stole my heart
You occupied the spot he slept
We shared the sheets
Conscious silenced
Resistance defeats
Love was made
A new feeling, I dared to believe
As you slowly left the bed
My heart you received
Our charade continued
Behind closed doors
When you were away
My heart missed yours
Your strong hands
Your soft neck
Fixed my blackening soul
Never failing to keep me in check
My most rewarding sin,
Consisted of you.
Blocking thoughts of when
Our rendezvous would be through
The sky cried
When the day came
For the weeping clouds
To diminish our flame
The patterns of our lives
Return as they once were
Never forgetting the past
The brother I would always prefer
