Poor Souls

Once I flew
Through blue skies and morning dew
To leave mine
For New York’s city

Blue to bluish-grey to just grey
The air stung my eyes
I flew through a cloud like none before
It was thick
And hot like the sun
But not comforting

Under the cloud was a building
Of unfathomable size
The noise of it’s manufacture was loud
But yet still droned by the other buildings around it

Between the buildings there were people
But in great numbers unlike at home
Then I noticed another difference
They were not conversing or playing with one another
They all seemed to have different destinations
And there were no other birds or animals
Just humans

I wondered why there weren’t for a second
And then I thought no longer
For my lungs grew tired of breathing in air that was not so pure
And my ears pained from grinding machinery and the horns of vehicles
So I flew home

When I arrived at the nest my mother asked
How was New York’s city?

I said it was painful
The air hurt and my breaths were short
My ears rung
And there were no other animals to talk to
But worst of all
All of the people seemed so stern and unhappy

I then looked at my mother
She did not seem so surprised as I was
And then she replied
This is because those poor souls have no birds to sing to them

the ending was cool. i liked how truthfully the bird described NYC, and i liked the feeling of the poem.

This is really cool!  I find it interesting the way you told it from a bird's point of view.  Keep up the good work!
