Empty Pages Speak ILOVEYOU
Empty pages filled with love poems
I refused to write,
They defined me.
Angst ridden stanzas and phrases
Told my story as plain as day
As the freckles on your face
Or the way your eyes shine
And even as the bold and blocky type
Shouted
STAYAWAY
You came to me.
And even as my tongue
Burned your beautiful skin
(It reminded me of an angel)
And my hurt threatened to swallow you whole
Or spin you into my
Dark Dark Dark
Reality
You held me tight
Until the broken ugly pieces
That formed the words I wouldn’t ever say
Fit back together
(They were not healed but instead barely broken)
And slowly in your arms
I learned a new word
New phrase
New life
That I had barely known before.
&&&
I wasn’t ready for your sunlight,
But I am ready for your smile.
And I am ready to replace
Those bitter words
With
Singing
And my notebook isn’t empty anymore
And the bold and blocky type
Says
ILOVEYOU.
