I Remember the Tears...
My first love was hard.
I’d no idea what I was feeling.
He seemed confused, too.
(Though he never admitted it)
When I was first asked on a date,
My mind drew a blank.
I just started at him.
He walked on, assuming rejection.
Weeks later, he asked again.
I smiled, but still could not speak.
A week before prom, he tried again.
FINALLY!
I had control of myself!
I said yes, and we had a great time.
Then, after summer vacation…
I saw him with another.
I cried, cried, cried, and cried.
I thought I’d never be able to shed another tear…
Ever.
Now, you are here.
Memories of my first are so blurred.
I barely remember him.
But I remember the tears.
And that you were there, to wipe them away.
And so, you on your knee with a diamond ring, I say ‘Yes!’
