Ode to My Dad
You sometimes smile but it’s only every once in a while.
You used to turn out my light and keep me safe and sound at night.
You never seem to laugh and when you don’t tuck me in, it breaks my heart in half.
You never notice what I wear and I feel like you don’t even care.
You took me on many adventures; I never had to be a pretender.
You were always there when I looked back, always gave me the most slack.
You made me believe that I could achieve.
You held me and loved me.
You had to drive me everywhere, here, there, to get underwear.
You were the one that I could go to, it’s always been
You.
You.
You.
