My Heart
My heart is a clock
Tick, Tock, beat, beat
Thump, ring as the hour hand hits twelve
My heart is paint
Different colors with millions of discoveries
From Kleenex to a dead computer screen
From a Larousse French dictionary to sea glass
My heart is a ruler
Once broken it takes a new shape,
Jagged at one end, smooth at the other,
Used for the same purpose, but an individual
Jagged but smooth is my heart.
My heart is a book
More Copperfield than Caulfield, Cristo, or Carton
More Aramis than Athos
Through rich luscious pages,
Gilded letters tell a story one eighth full
Of a character never told before
