I'm From...
I am from the back of my father’s head
While I sat on his shoulders
Walking through the bright green woods surrounding our home
I’m from sitting in the clubhouse
Pretending to make soup from leaves and pine cones
And going on adventures to faraway places, the clubhouse our ship
I’m from Powerpuff Girls and The Puzzle Place
And spending lazy afternoons after school
Watching my sister’s TV shows with her
And speaking of my day at school
I’m from hanging with the boys
Because I didn’t want to play “cell phone” with the girls
And drinking Pepsi every day at recess
I’m from sitting in church and coloring
Because I couldn’t comprehend the preacher’s words
I’m from reading the long, big Harry Potter books
Even though I was so young
And being thought a know-it-all by my classmates
I am from fun times, bad times
And the times in between
From deaths and new life
And from life changing experiences
That I will never forget
