Prophecy of the Terrible Band Concert
Fingers danced over the keys
Levers
Knobs
Music filled the whole room,
With nearly perfect rhythm.
We all sat still and focused.
The conductor waved
His hands around in frenzy
The fingers sped up
The music quickened
The last note was played.
The final bell rang
Dismissing us from class
Tomorrow is the concert!
Tomorrow is the concert!
Tomorrow is the concert!
Hundreds of people
Watching
Waiting
Listening for a mistake
I practiced all night
As well as all day
I prepared my uniform
And music
I cleaned my instrument
Squeaks
Screeches
Squeaks
Tomorrow is the concert!
Tomorrow is the concert !
Tomorrow is the concert!
I walked to school and saw an old lady
Gray clothes
Gray Hair
Gray skin
“Don’t mess up.
I’ll be watching
Waiting
Listening for a mistake.
You will make one
In front of everyone
Be prepared.”
She walked away
Today is the concert!
Today is the concert!
Today is the concert!
And I’m going to mess up!
Practice
Practice!
PRACTICE
It is time….
We set our instruments up
We seat our selves
And the red curtain rises
We play
Sweet victorious notes
We play perfectly
The conductor looks
Like his arm is having a spasm
Finally the last note
I play perfectly
I breathe hoping
I won’t mess up
Success!
It was perfect
They are on there feet
Clapping for us!
I smile big
Then suddenly
I nearly sneeze and a squeak
Sounds from my instrument
I turn red and everyone looks
Straight
At
Me
Then I wake up
My alarm blares at me
The concert is today!
The concert is today!
The concert is today!
And my nightmare is just a nightmare
Time to play my clarinet
