I sit alone in my room
And think about the e-mails from dad
How is he doing? Will he return home?
Questions that remain unanswered.
But dad being away
Has given me strength
To endure without destruction.

Strength from the battle
That rages inside
Throughout the night it eats
Though the mind and the soul
It eats and it eats
Until all that is left is a shell
But dad being away
Has given me strength
To resist the gnaw of this thing
It has given me strength
To get on with my life
For strength comes from the battle

My dad is away for so long
But his heart is with mine all the while
He is here in my mind in my heart in my soul
And nothing will take that away
Not even the thing that gnaws from inside
Not even that may undo
The strength I have gained from the battle

The strength from the battle
Has grown ever stronger
Now I can resist it all
From the things locked inside
Or the things on the out
I have gained my strength
From the battle.

I love that you write about something real and that you can relate to since one of your parents is in the military. I completely understand what it's like to not have my dad with me but i know he is doing something good for our country and he does give me the strength to do all the things i want to. Military Brats Rule. :)
