Rippling Light
Her: I hear cars roaming through the night,
but my view is cut off by one street light
Me: This clear blue crystal surface
seems to capture the moons white countenance
Her: The leaves are green in the day,
but only at night they shine a yellow array
Me: My shadow teeters on the water’s edge,
as if to drown is my soul’s dark pledge
Her: And through the leaves of this dark night,
I only see the blackness of light
Me: I create ripples just to see,
if they can somehow bounce back to me,
Her: And as I look up from this lonely night,
I see the stars shining so bright
Me: A sliver of the moon sits alone,
just like the street light outside of her home
Her: And as we see these lights all around,
I speak to him, my light, my crown
Me: The light that I see, in a sea of black,
reminds me of the company that I lack
Her: What is this light? This shadow? This night?
Only a ripple in the dark cool night
Me: Shadow and shine, moon and sun,
must coexist like hearts as one.
