The Day a Gravedigger built a Mountain
Oh the rain!
Those plunging drops that
Carried a million whispered
Promises of salvation
The lepers raised their wavering hands
And the clerics lowered their eyes
As the ink ran and bled down their Bibles
And the ethereal yellow light
Trembling low on the horizon
That shone through cloudy glass eyes
Brought kings to their knees
It was the day man left his home
To forget the meaning of dry and wet
And the meaning of purpose
The day man became invisible under the crust of gray cloud
And a gravedigger built a mountain
And the thunder!
Those sounding booms
Became our tribal drums
Adorned with beads and dripping with
Reminders of our daily life
Pounding to shake the Earth and tear the
Seams of our own stagnancy
The heartbeat of our Heavenly endeavor
The lightning! dancing with
Impish delight
Carelessly joining in our riotous cheer
Blackening the ground and framing the night
With the blinding glow of flashing cinders
The streets began to breath
Seething with the movement of a faceless crowd
Until the deepening cracks in the pavement
Filled with rippling sweet water
