First Entanglement
I picked at my fingernails
and you tapped your digits on the bench.
Hold her hand Stephanie yelled.
Pressured, your fingers stopped drumming
beats on the cedar and settled at my palm, then
tangled themselves between my fingers.
Your hand was clammy, something that would
normally bother me, but not now.
It was strange,
having one hand tied to another,
but it wasn’t awkward,
and I knew this simple holding of hands
would be routine in our experimental relationship.
Indulging in this cluster
of extremities could only
get easier from here.
