A Little Too Common
The familiar screams of trucks
wake the resting building.
The easily influenced
pick away at the diminishing
timber of the windowsill
that belongs to their fourth floor apartment.
Top floor is for gawking at the accident below.
It’s all a little too common
for the aged two stories down.
A steel shield blocks their
remorse. Just a scurried glance will
cure their curiosity.
Other residents stay put,
covering any dangers
with meager clothes over closed
glass. Their lives too similar
to the cracked marble,
their only security.
