Routine
The residue falls in my wake
Opening the door the faint aroma of smoke fills the air
The brush, phosphoric
I flee
We pass
Heat
A jagged hole burned into me
Noxious fumes
Dampness
I turn and run
Unexpected, you arrive
Ignition
Searing shock, the flames jet along their paths
Consuming,
Ash
Alone, strewn in the wind
You gather me
Put me together
Resurrect me
We mournfully part
I brush the embers off
Hold my breath
Hoping to make it farther this time
