When We Were Us
Sunny days, spent out
in our own little world
We were strong then
heroes in that world
nobel, courageous
The legends, we made
The mysteries, we solved
We were confidants
and vigilantes
We were knights
on white stallions
We were healers
in white robes
We were the conquerors
of our bold world
We were free
to be ourselves
who we wanted to be
But that was then
That was before
we chose divergent
paths through life
Setting off to make
a name for ourselves
as if the ones we shared
weren’t good enough
