Sunday
I woke up this morning and the sun was gone
Weatherman says it was an atomic bomb
with a 10% chance of divine intervention
But God’s resting today
And he took the sun with him to bed
I’m not surprised
Heaven looks like a dark and lonely place
Storm clouds and soot
Phosphorescent urine fallout
Precipitating cremations
I catch the ashes on my tongue
Swallow death whole
Chase it with radioactive strontium
To carbon date the baby-boomers
Plutonium tagged the streets
Silhouette graffitis and Last-Supper shadows
Someone let a mad-mycologist loose on the horizon
Planted poisonous mushrooms in the Pacific
Hell’s climbing Jacob’s ladder
And Heaven’s looking moldy
God better wake up soon
Stop spooning with the sun
Because the Earth is giving us the silent treatment
And not even gravity knows where I’m supposed to go
