time is a thief

they say time is money,
but really it’s a thief.
it hides in the shadows,
moves steadily along,
hidden beneath the cracks,
the clock goes on.
patient,
for the right moment,
it waits-
(which is ironic to say)
and then it pounces,
like predator and prey,
and it takes and takes,
loved ones away.
smooth skin wrinkles,
hands begin to shake,
blurry memories,
and life is taken away.
