Break the String (Please)
It's ridiculous.
How time and time again
I think you’ll come back.
Even after leaving me
Time and time again
I’m trying to break this string
That is wrapped tightly around my finger
That binds you to me.
It’s knotted around my middle finger,
But only gets tighter
Everytime I try to remove it by
Sliding
So I take ahold of it in my hands
And pull them away from each other,
But the string roughens.
It makes my hands red.
If only it was made of a clothing tag.
I rub my hands over each other,
Thumb tracing over the indents
Coating my index fingers,
Just before I grab the scissors to cut myself free.
But that won’t free me either.
The string only bends with the dull blades.
Even after many tries-
Nothing happens.
If only it was made of yarm.
It turns to a sickly, bright gold
Looked like the thread of life
But i’m not one of the fates with one eye,
Who could weave and break connections,
And certainly not immortality.
If only it was made of something breakable.
