The Calm in the Storm
Soaring down like a shooting star,
The rest they follow just the same and sprinkle up my arms
Landing softly on my face, my neck, my nose, my mouth,
The air is crisp and fresh and smells like something from a long time ago
I inhale slowly and feel a rush of cool air fly through my lungs
A small warm feeling begins to spread that started in my chest,
It stretches through my shoulders and dances down my arms
It reaches to my fingertips and then seems to go on
The sound of rain is soft and innocent and makes me laugh
It echoes through the sky and floats on far away
Just like it always does, it travels to a better place and to a better day,
Your hair gets wet but you don’t care and you don’t seem to mind
Your clothes are wet and eyes are filled with raindrops
You finally feel something
and it’s joy

Writing this poem has helped me express the joy I get from the rain. To many people rain is just water, precipitation, or maybe just science, but to me it's like walking down memory lane every time a rain drop hits my skin.
