This Desert of Ours
this desert of ours, it’s bigger than it used to be
how do we find our way out the
scientist says we look for water
as the sands never lead you wrong
the holy man says we should look for god
as he will forgive all
i say we should look below
for none of us have considered
that this isnt quite a desert
isn’t quite real
and we aren’t quite awake
the scientist says it must be sand
for we are thirsty, and when the wind whips
we find ourselves hiding from the sting
the holy man says it is gold
we must resist the temptations
of satan, of man
for when the light strikes it
we all feel the pull of greed
i disagree
as i feel the sand begin to sink
just slightly, just barely
i tell the scientist, the holy man
i think we are in an hourglass
and time is slipping away from us

I wrote this piece based on the idea of people trapped in an hourglass. I was aiming for a mystical/spooky vibe, and I hope I succeeded!
