Alone
The sky
bleeds
into the ever-darkening city.
Rain licks the weather-beaten buildings
fear slithers down the street
Grief gazes toward me
His gaunt expression
frames a macabre flicker in his eye
He whispers with the weight of generations
The devil dances pirouettes of trickery across my mind.
He whispers hellish temptations into my ears
and tugs at the strings that bind souls.
Like a marionette, he pulls me onward.
The once wistful spirits spatter in disgust
Forgive me, I call.
The sky stares mournfully.

I wrote this piece when I was grappling with grief and depression. I did my best to frame these emotions in a short piece, using words as an outlet for my emotions and expression, which I had kept hidden. If you are dealing with similar emotions, know that it does get better. You are not alone, although it may feel that way. Keep hanging on, it's worth it.
