Don't Let Me Go
i smile when
you walk through the front door
and you make me laugh in ways
no one has before
i walk down this hallway
with your hand in mine
on our way to the perfect classroom
because it's the one with your name tied
attached to mine with the toughest of twine
and rumors may spread
but that's not why i worry
because deep down inside
my feelings are in a flurry
because i want to be loved
and i want you to love me
so don't let me go
as we pass bags hanging from shoulders
judging from the corners of their eyes
and make me laugh again
please
because right now i need it
in time
I wrote this about my anxiety around going back to school, but having select people who I know have my back.
