I'd always thought

if i fell into the ocean

i'd disappear, no trace, no environmental effect

the sea would swallow me and hide me deep inside

i'd be nothing in the vastness of the sea

but walking across the Golden Gate Bridge

I saw the ships making white waves on the bay's surface

the surfers and parasailers with their blue and red boards

practically flying in the wind and the deep water

we were there, I could see us, alive

spread out across the waves, perfectly visible

we stood out against the blue, not faded into it

we are forces of nature too

I guess i would matter

even in the middle of the ocean

- and you definitely would ;)

Thank you so much! I'm glad that I was able to convey that message!

“Picture a wave. In the ocean. You can see it, measure it, its height, the way the sunlight refracts when it passes through. And it's there. And you can see it, you know what it is. It's a wave.<br /> <br /> And then it crashes in the shore and it's gone. But the water is still there. The wave was just a different way for the water to be, for a little while. You know it's one conception of death for Buddhists: the wave returns to the ocean, where it came from and where it's supposed to be."<br /> -The Good Place

I love the message in this poem and the way you convey that message through the shift in the last few lines. You did a great job of combining that message with your immediate surroundings and observations (walking across the Golden Gate Bridge while watching surfers and parasailers and boats) as well as some of your deeper thoughts (believing you could disappear after falling into the ocean). I’m a big fan of those lines because of that feeling, like a fear of the unknown but also curiosity, if that makes sense. Wonderful poem :)
