The Color of Ice
Seize the cold day
dull bright
filtered icy
sun light
Take what you will
and not another drop
carpe diem
another thought
Wishful thinking
wistful mourning
tears
unmade
degrade
rosy cheeks unstained
and free
Find another word
to hear
to write
to mold
break the hand
sever the ear
Single idea
falls to shatter
another trophy
on the wall
Dainty frail fingers
and their obscene writings
curl and gnarl
on frost tipped
fractures
like creeping vines
and die there
My fervent dreams
lingered with a smile
mud smeared and
dirty
Head hanging upside down
rushing blood
I hardly recognize myself
Feathers plucked from
flightless birds
a pile at my feet
carpet to pillow
my new body
quickly shuttered to sleep
Sudden whimpers
whispers
laughs
cacophonous in their
unpredictability
echo to mourn
their unshaped
tomb
the silence of them
oppressing
Arms around
tenderly wrapping
to find solace
in their vast
great big ocean
wine-dark
pouring out
in a single motion
It freezes
and leaves
the wind still
howling
power
cradled in a crib of
ink
The glass I tap
once
then twice
askance never
reliving
I find myself
my nose to the panes
muttering and shuddering
about deliverance
Quietly, softly
a word not
spoken
of quill and ink
so freeing.
