When It's Gone
It was true what they said:
You truly never know what you have until it’s gone,
Or what you had, for that matter.
That moment it slips out of your reach,
Much too far to be grasped again by the attempt of a long embrace,
…then you really know it is gone.
That thing you treasured and held so high suddenly becomes a mist among the clouds.
Alike when the waves throw themselves into the rocky edges,
bursting into a million droplets of water,
yet illustrating itself as a well between your eyes and the view amongst your sight.
But then, the wave falls after a second,
back into where it surfaced from.
But the mist still remains—
forth your skin and laying upon your lashes.
I wrote this at a time when I lost something that I didn't even know I loved that much until it was gone. Though this piece is open to interpretation, I think we can all resonate with the emptiness loss brings.
