History
When I turned 5 I learned how to speak Hawaiian
By the time I was 10 I knew all the monarchs of Hawaii
When I reached the age of 13 I knew the history of Hawaiʻi,
I knew the true meaning behind this island we call paradise
I am proud to say, “I am kanaka.”
I am proud to say, “I am part of this lāhui.”
I am proud to say, “I grew up on this island”
Mai ka Moku Nui o Keawe a i moku o Lehua
From Big Island all the way to Lehua
Mai ka piʻi ana o ka lā ma ka hikina a i ka napoʻo ana o ka lā ma komohana
From the sunrise in the East to the sunset in the West
Mai ke aliʻi nui o Kamehameha a i nā kānaka o kēia lā
From Kamehameha to our generation
Mai ke kumulipo mai ka honua
The Kumulipo is who created the earth
So much knowledge
So much knowledge I feel like my head is going to explode
I feel like a diamond shining in the sun
“E ʻōnipaʻa kākou,” Liliʻuokalani said.
“Strive for the highest.”
I did that
I am that.
