My Brother Breathes
Did you see my brother go away?
He can’t breathe
into my mind.
Where’s his lady’s face?
Evil chased. Evil chased our careless time
in fingers of sunlight. We saw the past only rarely, like a glimmer in a cherry for a stolen summer moment like sweet medicine before it turns bitter on your lips or chili before it gets cold or the day before night steals it away from where sunlight clutches trees. Did you see my brother? He breathes, he breathes still.

At this point in my life, both my brothers, who are my only siblings, are moving very far away from me. Both of them can't stand life in our family's house; it's almost like they can't breathe here.
