Lemonade and Honeydew
I'm not even looking for happy
just a different type of sad
And I'm not trying to be quite sane
just the crazy that I used to have
Yeah, I know that I'm too broken
so I'll never be quite fixed
But I had better ways of coping
If I could just find my way back to it
Back to when the world was so much smaller
Problems didn't seem quite so big
Back when the only holes you fell into
were the ones in dirt you'd dig
And your mother's arms,
the safest place that you could ever be
And your father's smile
could shake the earth and calm the raging sea
You wondered not whether God
could ever love you
All you knew was the smell of grass
and the sticky taste of honeydew
The sticky taste of honeydew
and sunshine in the summertime
no darkness seizing hold of you
when life gives you lemons, but what if life gave you limes?
Lemonade would fix your problems
at 50₵ a cup
Strawberry ice cream could make you happy
and you were never hungry, all filled up
Look where you are now,
don't recognize the sun
Look at what you've come to,
with your finger on the gun
Don't you remember lemonade and honeydew?
When life gives you limes, what are you to do?
