the stars of affliction
gusts of wind wove between a field of grass bristles
the earth a mere hairbrush
combing and taming the wild chariot
that moves forth with time itself
my voice i urged forward
the susurrations i hoped were just enough
to travel the valley of the cosmos
and safely land in the arms of the stars
i lay before them
a witness before the jury
i plead to them
please go easy on me
for life
as sweet as may be
is not the cradling arms of a mother
is not the embrace of the summer sun
i am silent amongst my consultants
they are nothing more than bark and needles
and the flowers despite their allure
do not carry baskets of comfort
every thought and question
walk the boulevards of my mind
forever to wander with no destination
and no satisfaction
but one restless thought
demands an answer
so constellations please tell me
why is the human spirit the heaviest thing to lift?
