Watching the World Collapse in 4K
[CLICKS ON disaster.com, Livestream]
Rain tapped on the window
Begging to be let in
Mom ignored it
The microwave pinged
She called, “dinner is ready!”
[A New Window Opens, Channel 20]
The rolling hills
Ominous music creeped in
The clouds dragged across the sky
As blood creeped in at the foot of the hills
The clear streams now murky with sediment and jealousy
[The Frame Freezes]
The water stopped running
The deer froze
[Return to the Livestream]
Confetti landed on the young boy hunched in his gaming chair
A year had passed but nothing had changed
A half eaten plate of lasagna waited at his side
A piece of confetti in his greasy hair
A waft of his mother’s lavender perfume hung in the doorway
The rain knocked louder
The boy ignored it
[What World Am I In? Help.]
A leaf fell onto the deer
That shook its head
Almost
Gracious
The deer trotted over the bloody water
And took a sip
[The Livestream Pops Up, titled When Life Was Simple]
The boy sipped his coke
WARNING WARNING WARNING WARNING WARNING WARNING WARNING
Blared across the screen
[Lost. Colors Dim. We Fly Into The Mayhem]
The boy stood and knocked over his coke
The deer smelled the lasagna
The boy saw the bloody water and tilted his head
The deer kept drinking
The boy dragged himself towards the deer
Making frantic hand motions
He didn’t notice how all of the flowers drooped
The deer didn’t mind the confetti on the grass carpet
The boy reached in his pocket for his phone
Abandoned on his nightstand
Where the lavender perfume hung in the door
And the rain drummed
