love rising
i've spent too much time down low
pitying myself
falling too deep and
losing myself,
wallowing in sadness.
you and i, we're alike
we tear ourselves down
let them throw us to the ground
thinking
we
are not worthy.
we believe we will never succeed,
that the endless waves of hate will never recede,
but listen.
they will.
one day we will realize
through both the lows and the highs,
we have survived.
when you feel like you're slipping into an abyss,
an empty black hole,
just know
you are worth so much more
you are worth both the earth and sky
and when your battle cry
- victorious angelic powerful fierce-
when that battle cry is heard?
the strongest of the strong will bow down without a word.
hold your head up high
and
yes
we may cry, but that shows our strength.
we've spent far too much time down low
we're tired of lying there, feeling alone
we deserve better
we deserve love
we deserve happiness and joy and all the good things in life
we deserve laughter and living without strife
we will rise above the waves of pity
break through the seas of self-destruction
gasping
struggling
but finally,
finally inhaling
love
and acceptance.
we deserve the world.

I have always struggled with self-worth and self-love, looking at the bitter and broken parts of myself rather than the beautiful parts. Discovering myself through poetry helped me heal and start to find love and acceptance within myself, rather than constantly breaking myself down. Words of affirmation helped me get through dark times and rise up from waves of self-pity and hate.
