retrograde
i’d say it’s the mercury retrograde
when you come back to me
it’s written in the stars
(the orbits that go backwards but)
it only ever seems we go backwards
orbiting around each other as though
our gravitational fields are drawn to
each other out of sheer magnitude and
polarity and not because of familiarity and
something easy to love
we only ever go forward
i only ever go forward
cradle me with remnants
of stardust on our cheeks you
hold me tenderly
ravage me
pull me apart while you pull away because
you were always so much stronger than i was
when it came to leaving
but we are in an endless retrograde now
and it’s not because of the stars or mercury
you tell me we will cease to
exist without each other i’ll be torn apart by
stray asteroids and telling each other
i love you
it’s the retrograde
it’s the retrograde
but we were not written in the stars, my love
all we do is move backwards when we
should be moving on
