The carpenter bee departs

Leaving this world for one unseen.

The small burrow-hole

Nearly invisible in wood grain,

The departure marked only by

A showering of pollen.

It falls softly to her eyelids,

Heavy with sleep, now yellow-stained.

With easy breaths

She leaves through that burrow-hole.

Her head on your lap, her mind

Someplace you can never go.
