Life's A ride
They told me to buckle up:
Life’s a ride
The twists, the turns, the drops
Buckle up
Put your seat belt on
But not too tight
And not too loose
Too tight and it will strangle you
Holding on to every last morsel of freedom you have left
Too loose
And you might just slip right out
They said to get to the fun part
You must wait
Anticipating, but not taking the action to get there
Just sit in the vehicle and wait, someone will press start.
You just sit in the vehicle, awaiting the drop
a moment of exhilaration one gets
merely from being afraid
Fear too much
You miss out
Fear too little
you get hurt
Then the drop comes
And its nothing what you expected
You approach the twists and turns
Blinded from the drop
Because during that drop
You closed your eyes
And in that second you did
you witnessed your life flash by
You tugged at the strap of your seatbelt
To their expectations of how tight it should be
And yet
You still weren’t good enough
You didn’t fear too much nor too little
And still, you missed the fun
You wonder how you will ever amount to more
How you can be like the girl next door
How life could stop being a bore
And it hits you
Stop trying to live up to others expectations
Follow your heart
Take it one day at a time
Leave your seatbelt on as loose or as tight as you want
fear as little or as much as you want
Because no one is stopping you
And the rules they deem you to follow to succeed in life
Prevents life from being a ride
Because you were too busy holding on and closing your eyes
Holding yourself back from being yourself
And closing your eyes and never witnessing the fun
That you almost lost it all
So how can life be a ride
When it never began moving
How can life be a ride
If YOU don't press start.
