Icarus
They won’t tell us this
but Icarus laughed as he fell.
He threw his head back and roared into the winds, teeth bared.
There’s bitter triumph in crashing
when you should be soaring.
They tell us the story of Icarus.
Of how the wax scorched his skin,
how it ran scorching rivers down his back.
To teach us not to fly high
not to go near the sun.
But in doing so they forget that it was the ocean whereIcarus drowned.
Remember Icarus for his flight and not his fall. Remember him as the boy who touched the sun. He fell,
yes.
But it’s better
than never leaving the ground.
