This Is Fifteen
She walked quickly
Not stopping to pause
She held her phone
With all her might
A homeless man
With tattered clothes
Came up to her
And started yelling
She ran into a store
Shivers up her spine
“Can I help you?” he asked
“Just looking,” she replied
But her thoughts weren’t fine
She stood erect
Aware of every noise
Every peep, every look,
She never dreamt of this
She walked out
Her eyes dim
Looking down
At her reflection
A guy whistled
“Hey baby, what’s your number?”
She ran away
From the thunder
The lightning struck
Her pockets were open
She retraced her steps
Looking for anything but him
She got home
And cried
She was tattered
Inside
