you always told me
well behaved women seldom make history
if you really believed that
you'd let me misbehave
but no
you say
don't talk to boys / sit up straight / play nice / take my advice
I want to
Climb trees / wear paint-splattered jeans / get a tattoo / have pockets
Let me be me
You want straight hair and a white picket fence but
I want the world to be better for my kids
You want perfection
I don’t need a lecture
It’s not idealism
Leave behind all the -isms
