Sapling Amends
In the intricacies of development
I must express great sorrow
For in the height of prosperity
We’ve thought not of tomorrow
We built to the sky and back again
Watching woodland creatures flee
We look past a world destroyed
Thinking not of what could be
The air is poisoned with despair
Yet we breathe on in its fume
We steal your trees, announce them ours
Buds and flowers never to bloom
For all this, I plead one thing
As there seems not much else to do
I kneel before God’s big green earth
And apologize to you.
